What We Offer:

We are a Grade II listed free-of-tie pub with a well preserved Victorian layout and beautiful tiled bar, and are listed in CAMRA’s national inventory of historic pub interiors. The Golden Ball was in the 2020 Good Beer Guide. We have a range of hand-pulled cask ales with an emphasis on good quality locally produced beer.Our focus is on the community and we have in the past had a range of events and community groups using the pub.

A supreme example of a community pub. A good range of beers, all in perfect nick, alongside a healthy selection of gins, tasty scotch as well as wines and cider. HOT MULLED WINE on a cold winter’s day, plus (fake but great) coal fires. Pork pies will keep you happy, veggie options available
Lovely old pub with a great atmosphere. Main bar, plus snug plus another room with bar billiards. Good range of beers with knowledgeable landlady on hand to explain where they’re from etc. Court yard beer garden with plenty of tables and chairs. Not to forget the delicious scotch egg’s and pies which were available.
Nice pub. I believe it’s community owned, after saving it from closure. Quite a bit on the ‘PTA brigade’ spectrum, but wouldn’t put me.off.going in again. Would look at trying the bar snacks next time, decent size pork pies and scotch eggs, doesn’t need to be anything too fancy to go with beer.

Amazing pub, lovely staff very polite with a warm and welcoming atmosphere! The beer was great, music was at a reasonable level on our visit and everyone was lovely. Will definitely be coming back during my visit to York and will be back next time I am in York!
Great friendly Service and plenty of choice of drink. Big shout out to Nicole who has been fantastic.
Nicole could not have been more accommodating for our booking. Really lovely, really relaxed and really great (with a group of 13 girls on their way to a hen party!) great service.
